A moment in time

A moment in time

One of the things I’ve learned as I’ve become older and it relates to photography is that take the shot when you first see it.  Use whatever camera you have.  You might not ever be in the same place again.  Case in point;   I’ve always loved this particular tree at Beatons.  It’s an old decrepit birch tree and it has such character.  I love how Bonnie re-purposed a cowboy boot into a bird house as well as the license plate covered one. The inevitable happened this past fall.  The tree had seen its last summer and was cut down. I’m really glad I have this memory because I took the moment to frame the shot...

‘Ainy Stecher

‘Ainy Stecher

Wow… 21 years ago today, I met for the first time, one of the most amazing people who ever came into my life.  She was born on her own terms after scaring the bejeezus out of me, her mother, for almost 5 months before her arrival into this beautiful world.  There were so many times I made promises to the universe to just make sure that she was safe and healthy and be able to come into my arms for all the love we could give her. Raine Ellenjea Wedekind Streicher came screaming into this world at 2:35 pm strong, healthy and kinda pissed that she had to leave the warm cocoon I had provided for 9 1/2 months.  I knew immediately I had a beautiful albeit  very demanding baby who would only want to be with her mama.  Everyone who knew Raine in the beginning...

Interesting photo

Interesting photo

Here is a photo Todd took while we were in San Diego.  We had spent the day driving the coast and after watching the sunset at Torrey Pines Golf Course we set out to find some seafood.  We found it at a restaurant recommended by Yelpers called Truducks in La Jolla. I loved the cool fairy lights wrapped around the palm trees.   Todd likes the yellows that show in this low-light photo.  I think it’s kind of distracting, but I have warmed to it.  So I decided to compare to a black and white version.   I’m drawn to the contrasts and play of light on the building.   What do you...

Pantry Redo

Pantry Redo

This week I opened up the  pantry space in the kitchen by finally taking  the doors off.  I like how removing the doors opens up the space.  So now, I need  to clean things up a bit. So with the addition of a few new baskets, I was able to put some order to the clutter.   Now the challenge will be keeping the...

A little color in winter

A little color in winter

All the orchids are doing very well this winter.  Got a few new ones at the recent Orchid Fest in Madison.  I have always done will with Phalaenopsis but as I get more experienced with these amazing flora I’ve really embraced other types of orchids as well. For some reason, our orchids just love our eastern exposed windows in the winter.  They get just an hour of so of direct sun light early in the morning.  During the height of summer they have been moved outdoors.  But I’m not sure I’ll do that after last summers 100+ degree days.  Orchids definitely don’ t like it that hot.
