Something to think about
People smarter than I need to study this…..I heard a story on NPR a couple of summers ago about Mel Blanc being brought out of a coma by people talking to him in Bugs Bunny’s voice. Today I read an article about a family who have been able to communicate with their son using his beloved Disney characters. There is something here about the way we as humans respond to archetypes, repetition and the need to connect. Interesting…. Both stories are great reads – Here’s the Mel Blanc article – and here’s the Disney article –

Wow, when I look at this photo of my daughter, Raine, I see the future. The hopes, dreams and possibilities of what can be. I love the powerful stance she takes as she looks into the distance.

I’m hoping this sun brings you warmth from a cold Wisconsin night. They’re calling for -30 by morning. It’s been a record cold winter this year but it isn’t bothering me like so many winters have. I got a new pair of Sorels and a down coat for Christmas so I’m jamming the warms this time. This sculpture Todd and I brought to commemorate our 28th year together this January. It’s incredibly wonderful to share your life with someone, to build a life better together than one could have possibly built alone. January is a big month for me. I actually celebrated my birthday this year and I’m glad I did. I had such great friends and family come down to Dexters for a little b-day cheer. Here’s...

So I jumped in and took the challenge of the FB question du jour…Thought I had better put the down here for posterity… All right…I’ll play this game of 12… Elizabeth 1. I don’t like to be the center of attention 2. I’m an only child and it shows…I forget to talk to people 3. It’s so easy to just post my life on Facebook. If for some reason you are not my friend on FB, send me a request. But really, I do need to post more here as this is really the record of my life and contemplations. And I control it – yes, I know I don’t get instant response to something I post. but I know this is just for me. The photo above was taken by my daughter, Raine. I love the light shining on the Raven’s wing I think Raine captured this image when she was about 17. I love the composition of this image. The shadows and the watchful look of the raven. Interesting image. Great shot,...

The vision started back a few years ago at Beatons. We fell in love with the lake when we were in our 20s. We bought the lot in our mid 30s right before we we moved to Holland for a few years. Once we came back home, we started going to our place in the northwoods often just to camp, hang out at the property and to dream about building something. In 2008 we began to build a timber post and beam structure by hand. Today we are doing the finishing touches on the first building of our Northwoods place of paradise. The building you see above is called the SaunaHaus. It is our little baby and boy do we love it. It’s 16ft x 24ft with a loft. It’s just right for two people to stay in. But better yet, it holds lots of people coming for a...

As my faintly Irish mother always taught me about my tenuous claim to Irishness….”It’s quality over quantity”. It started, my love of Irishness, when I was a wee lassie…. my mom would tell me about her Grandma Pelton (Lillie Agnelia Fox Pelton) who lived with her when she was growing up. G. Pelton, an Irish descent American, had raised my mom’s father, Lloyd, after the unexpected death of his mom and her daughter, Mytle after giving birth to her first child, my grandfather, in 1920. G. Pelton was very close to Lloyd as she raised and lived with him and my G. Boo after they were married. I vaguely remember this woman as a little kid, visiting her at the nursing home. I’m sad to say my only memory is not...
