Interesting photo
Here is a photo Todd took while we were in San Diego. We had spent the day driving the coast and after watching the sunset at Torrey Pines Golf Course we set out to find some seafood. We found it at a restaurant recommended by Yelpers called Truducks in La Jolla. I loved the cool fairy lights wrapped around the palm trees. Todd likes the yellows that show in this low-light photo. I think it’s kind of distracting, but I have warmed to it. So I decided to compare to a black and white version. I’m drawn to the contrasts and play of light on the building. What do you...

For my birthday back in January, I knew I wanted to be somewhere warm and not spend it in cold, gray, dreary and wintery Wisconsin. So I was glad to get an invite to our friend, Scott’s pinning ceremony as a Captain in the U.S. Navy in beautiful San Diego. We stayed a long weekend and had a great time exploring the area. One of my bucket list items has been to visit the San Diego Zoo. As a child, I couldn’t think of a better place to have a job! What a beautiful place – not only the animals but the amazing gardens, plants and trees. The zoo is built into a canyon so there is lots of levels. What a great place to spend a day. On Saturday, it was a beautiful sunny day but unseasonably cool for San Diego at about 55 degrees. We spent...

I got my wish for this year’s birthday. I wanted to put my feet in the Pacific Ocean and I did! Todd and I had a great time in San Diego even though there were record cold temperatures – but still warmer than Madison in January…. We saw as much as we could in four days. No rest for the wicked, I say. Will post more photos this week. Just wanted to get this photo posted tonight. After traveling for seven hours, I’m too exhausted to size/crop any more images tonight.

You know, I’ve never been to New York City. Now having been there, I’m still slapping myself for never having gone before. What an amazing city filled with wonderful sights, sounds and people. We stayed at a sweet little hotel right around the corner from the David Letterman (Sullivan) theater. This meant we were just a couple blocks from Times Square, 30 Rock and Central Park. We walked everyday for miles and got a very good workout. What took us to NYC was a field trip of sorts for Raine. She’s finishing her culinary degree and has a job offer in the East Village. She’s a bit intimidated by NYC so I thought a trip would be good to convince her to take a chance. And show me that she wouldn’t be eaten alive her...

During the past year both of our daughters have had the opportunity to travel overseas. Ryann to Kenya and Tanzania for two months and Raine to Spain for a couple of weeks. Here are a few of the great pictures they took (with a little cropping and styling by the Mama). Ryann spent some time on safari and had just an amazing opportunity to see so many animals. I love this silhouette of the elephant walking through the grass. This lion cub staring through the branches is mesmorizing. I love this shot of the mama zebra herding her baby away from the humans. This photo was taken by Raine while traveling in Spain. I love the composition of the walking pigeon across the square tiles . I’ve uploaded more of their photos here – where you can...
