Madison’s 2012 Orchid Quest did not disappoint. Hundreds and hundreds of orchids from the friendly Phalaenopsis (Phals) and Paphiopedilum (Paps) to exotic Masdevallias. It was great to meet and talk with some of the best orchid growers in the Midwest and to learn more about these amazing flowers.

Yes, I know it’s been unseasonably warm here in Wisconsin. Temps today hit 51 degrees. However by tomorrow temps will be back to the seasonably cold 20 degrees with a threat of 8 inches of snow… What’s a girl to do? Make sure you have lots of orchids in the house! This orchid is new and purchased in December. It’s a basic Phalenopsis-type orchid and is super easy to keep and more importantly keep alive and have re-bloom. Sometimes even twice a year. Dang, it’s the end of March and I still have nothing in my outside gardens. Two weeks ago, we had two 50 degee days and since it’s back to freezing. Not liking Wisconsin at all. Thank goodness for the orchids which appreciate the sunlight and are blooming like crazy.

Yes, I love my summer perennials in the yard, they give a great blast of color for a couple of weeks, Orchids on the other hand are just the gift that keeps giving.
