The new diningroom
We’ve been in this house for a while. 14+ foster dogs and our own dogs in a home that the original owners put white carpet everywhere. Now, don’t get me wrong, the dogs were good and went outside, but everyone had to mark at some point…. One of the nice things about good quality, wool berber carpet, is that you can steam clean it and take away the stains for a few months. For years, I’d tell Todd, this was the last time I’d clean that damn carpet. Finally, we got a new floor. A huge thanks to Aaron for laying a beautiful new floor! I can’t even remember the old...

A great weekend so far – the guys are off to the U.P., deer hunting. Raine and I get to work on watercolors. They are not necessarily anything to write home about, but boy, I can say, I really enjoy it. Awesome hanging out with Raine and making art. Totally creative, inventive and...

This week I opened up the pantry space in the kitchen by finally taking the doors off. I like how removing the doors opens up the space. So now, I need to clean things up a bit. So with the addition of a few new baskets, I was able to put some order to the clutter. Now the challenge will be keeping the...
Read MoreHow’s the deck?
We met an Aussie woman once in Madison. She was on a year walk about and had come to Madison for a few days. Being the friendly sort, we invited her to the house one night for dinner. We hosted a cook-out with about eight friends on our new deck. This Aussie, knowing the deck was brand new said rather loudly to our North Dakota friend, Hutch, “How’s the dick?” Our always cool rocker friend took the strange sounding question quite in stride and answered “It’s hanging”. The rest of us cracked up laughing. The joy of an Aussie accent had the word, deck, sounding just like DICK. I still chuckle when I remember that night. So fast forward 15 or so years to a different house where we are rebuilding another deck....

The DIY project of Spring 2012 has started. We are taking down the 20 year old deck including the hideous railings and will rebuild the second-story deck to have a more modern flair. The posts and the redwood floorboards will be repurposed for an arbor and pergola along the side of the yard. More photos to...
Read MoreTerrariums – fun project for a snowy afternoon
Give me a day off of work and I can easily find things to do. Was inspired to build some terrariums today when I found some really fun glass pieces at a thrift store. Does anyone remember making these as a kid? I’d get so lost starring at mine – I could imagine a whole separate world in that container. Got some great advice at Jung’s Garden center and they set me up will all the proper materials including pea gravel, charcoal, Zippy potty soil, moss and some cute little plants. With the cover, it’s already warm and nicely humid – Just what plants love. For this terrarium, I put an elephant in for one of my favorite books as a child – Horton Hears a Who. And of course I’m already wondering...
