A Beatons Update

A Beatons Update

The summer went fast this year.  Fortunately, we were able to accomplish quite a bit at EndPoint. To start, we restained the outside of the saunahaus.  I love the new colors. We then focused on floors.  Both inside and the foundation floor for the main house. The main house foundation was quite the operation with five cement trucks that delivered thousands and thousands of pounds of concrete.   Todd and I then stained the floor.  Here’s a photo of the staining process. Then we laid a beautiful slate like tile on the saunhaus floor.  It turned out beautifully.   There are tons of more photos – but I’m too lazy to upload them all.  Find me on Facebook, there are more photos...

My beloved tennis shoes

My beloved tennis shoes

If you are of a certain age, you’ll remember the coolest shoe wasn’t Nikes but Tretorns.  The iconic shoes of my youth were tennis whites with a blue slash.  Today they come in lots of fun new colors like the red pair I’m sporting.  They are comfy and I can walk for miles in them.

The new diningroom

The new diningroom

We’ve been in this house for a while.  14+ foster dogs and our own dogs in a home that the original owners put white carpet everywhere.   Now, don’t get me wrong, the dogs were good and went outside, but everyone had to mark at some point….   One of the nice things about good quality, wool berber carpet, is that you can steam clean it and take away the stains for a few months.  For years, I’d tell Todd, this was the last time I’d clean that damn carpet. Finally, we got a new floor.  A huge thanks to Aaron for laying a beautiful new floor!  I can’t even remember the old...

A great weekend so far – the guys are off to the U.P., deer hunting. Raine and I get to work on watercolors. They are not necessarily anything to write home about, but boy, I can say, I really enjoy it. Awesome hanging out with Raine and making art. Totally creative, inventive and...

Cita Bear

Cita Bear

Cita 8/15/99 – 10/8/14 15 years ago we were living in the Netherlands when Raine and I first met Cita on a little farm in Belgium, not far from where we lived. It was love at first sight. Cita was a black little ball of fur that immediately could stand up to Raine and the rest of us. She was spunky an d definitely had a mind of her own. During the next couple of years, Cita traveled Europe with us as we went to Belgium Breweries, German Christmas Markets, French sand dunes and Spanish campsites with our family and friends. Since 2001, she loved and guarded her family in Madison. Truly, she, a 20 lb dog of fury taught me quickly to disconnect the front doorbell since it caused her to go into fits if some stranger decided they needed to come into our...

Family Recipes

Family Recipes

Raine and I helped my mom today.  We did a deep clean of the living room in preparation for the painter to come this weekend to give the walls a fresh coat.  One of the treasures I came across while cleaning out an end table was one of my Grandma Wedekind’s recipe boxes that my mom had been given.  Grandma liked to snip and collect recipes from magazines as well as write down some of her favorites.  Grandma was an amazing cook and I will always long for some of her great home cooking.   Here she is as a young woman, beautiful. Almost immediately upon finding the old-fashioned recipe box, Raine and I wanted to stop what we were doing and start to read the recipes.   We held ourselves back for another hour.  Then I dove in.  What a memory-laden...
